In Memory of Farrah Fawcet

Farrah Fawcet

February 2, 1947-June 25, 2009

Farrah Fawcet was a natural beauty.  She came on the scene and stole all of our hearts (even though we were jealous).  We tried to at least copy her hairstyle, but no one could match her smile and charm.  She was one of the great Charlie's Angels and starred in many films. I think those girls started an exciting revolution for women who love tight jeans, like to take risks, and have big hair. I enjoyed watching her in films and was a faithful Charlie's Angel viewer.  I admired her very much, and was saddened as are all of her fans by her passing.

By the way...our grandson Shawn turns 20 months old tomorrow.  He is now building with duplo building blocks.  Ahhh, he is so full of energy!  To be 20 months old again!

And don't miss the partial lunar eclipse of the moon starting at 6:17 a.m. Saturday morning...I don't know if I can get up that early.  But the moon will pass through the earth's shadow, temporarily becoming dark.  NYAAH!  Still don't know if I can make it.  But let's try!!!  This "Moon Illusion" should give quite a show!

Remembering Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson *** August 29, 1958-June 25, 2009 ***

I was always a fan of Michael Jackson.  Like many others, I enjoyed his music and I loved watching him perform.  I never saw him live in concert, but I never missed a chance to watch a televised performance by him.  He was the cutest kid and grew into a very handsome young man.  What happened after that, I won't even speculate.  My son and I enjoyed his "Thriller" album-we wore it out!  And to name just a few of my favorites:  "Billie Jean", "I'm Bad",  and "Man in The Mirror".  I, for one, regret that his life later became troubled and sad.  And I had looked forward to his work and performing in his later years.  But I will always celebrate his life and accomplishments, because they always brought joy to my life.  We miss you Michael Jackson!

Ah, Summer!

Well, today is the first day of Summer and it's already 100 degrees here in the Lone Star state.  Got to be sure to keep plenty of fresh water on hand for the animals.  As you can see in the picture above, this squirrel is waiting in line near the water faucet for his refreshment!  He's had his fill from our Mulberry tree, and soon it will be nap time.

I hope all you Dads had a wonderful father's day.  I tried to upload a special Dad's picture but the format wasn't compatible to this program.  Well, better luck next time they say.  We had a nice, quiet Father's Day, but it was too hot to get outside so we just chilled out indoors for the day.

Celebrate Flag Day June 14, 2010!

In August 1949, President Harry S. Truman proclaimed June 14 as Flag Day, and since then all Americans

in the country are encouraged to display the Stars and Stripes outside their homes and businesses. 

    

Old Glory was flown from sea captain William Driver's merchant ship in the 1820's/1830's.  It was originally a 24 star flag, and later 10 more stars were added for the states that had joined the union.

The Grand Union Flag is considered to be the first National Flag of the United States and was first flown on December 2, 1775 by John Paul Jones.

The Betsy Ross Flag was designed during the American Revolution.  According to the legend, the original Betsy Ross Flag was made on July 14, 1776, and in use by 1777.  Even though it is disputed that she actually sewed the first Flag, Americans have accepted Betsy Ross' story as history.

Monday, Monday...so good to me!

Happy Monday readers!  Today is "show and tell".  My mother was recently featured the "Kansas City Star" newspaper for her herbal antics!  Hopefully, to your right is the picture that was taken of her during an interview with Rachel C. Murphy.  The article is very lengthy and I couldn't get all of it in, but here are a few comments made by my mother:
"When starting out, it's important to start small and simple.  I grow dill, mint, parsley, fennel, a lot of cilantro, which doesn't keep, because I do a lot of Indian cooking.  If you're feeling more adventurous, branch out to herbs such as French Tarragon, Rose Geranium, Angelica, a sweet herb, or Rosemary.  Even common herbs, such as mint come in several varieties:  chocolate mint, pineapple mint, spearmint & and peppermint."  Mrs. Jones recommends getting to know your nursery for the best advice.  "No matter what you decide to grow, start small and focus on what you'll actually use."

You go Mom!  Great article!  If you have any questions for my mother on herb planting, send them my way and I'll see that she gets them.

Elvis is in the building!

Elvis appeared on the Milton Berle show on April 3 (from the deck of the aircraft carrier the USS Hancock) and on June 5, 1956.  Among his selections on his second appearance was a playfully sensuous performance of  "Hound Dog" that drove the kids in the audience wild, and the next day, has the press and some of the adult viewers appalled.  It is one of his most controversial performances.

Welcome June 2010

June is upon us and the weather is warming up. Our tomato plants are thriving...my husband Karo is the keeper of the tomatoes-he has made the stakes and they're going up. I will keep you posted on their progress.

Is it Coffee Time Yet?

The photo above is a picture of an outdoor gate my husband, Karo built for me a few years ago. We painted it and added hardware to make it real. I added a couple of pots and some Hibiscus. I painted the leaves and vines myself.  I did utilize the help of stencils just to outline and give myself and idea of where to go with it!

 I took the photo into one of my photo programs, added a spotlight and some stars, and this photo made a great backdrop for a Mother's Day card and also a Birthday card. I even took some of the other shots of this gate and made a collage-then brought window panes from my clipart over the additional views to add a more interesting cover.

We just had a horrific thunderstorm and the electricity went off for a few seconds. I lost my first writing of this so I am trying to hurry to finish it.

*** Then, I'll have a nice cup of hot java! ***
